Earth Day All School Clean-up!
Each Earth Day, all Cedar Park students, teachers and staff participate in our Clean-up Day of our school grounds as celebration of both spring and being eco-friendly. Everyone chips-in by preparing and cleaning our school grounds (outdoor classrooms, gardens, lawns and forest areas). Staff sign-up their classes (or themselves) to come out and help our school grounds look and feel great on Earth Day.
SciGirls Code Program
The past three years, Cedar Park has been lucky enough to be awarded a SciGirls after school program (grants funded by PBS, National Science Foundation and U of M).
SciGirls Code, is an outreach program where 16 partner organizations nationwide will be holding after school programs girls. The program is specifically designed to help address the gender gap in computer science programs by sparking and strengthening girls interest, skills, and confidence as technology creators.
MN Zoo's ZOOMS
Project
Every year, Cedar Park's third and fifth grades participate in the MN Zoo's ZOOMS project contest! And evert year we have students who earn "top finisher" awards for their own STEM designed projects. The MN Zoo's ZOOMS program supports teachers with integrating standards-based
ZOOMS resources, design challenges, and field trips into their curriculum to better equip students with the STEM skills to engineer and problem solve just like zookeepers, exhibit designers and
conservationists at the Minnesota Zoo!
.
Month of CODE!
The tech-driven world we all live in runs on code. Therefore, all Cedar Park students participate in a month of exploring and learning computer science/coding. Students get 5 lessons in both Tech & Engineering class in December where they learn the basic vocabulary & fundamentals of coding by practicing Computational Thinking problem solving skills & peer collaboration. Then later throughout the school year, each student creates a coding project in Tech class that supports ISD 196 Units of Study curriculum.
After School Classes
Cedar Park's after school class is a robust, innovative and hands-on program. We are also the only school in the district that offers all our after school classes for free. Each year we hold two sessions (fall and winter) each running six weeks. Classes run from 3:45 to 4:45 Monday through Thursday.
Some examples of after school classes are: Cedar Park News Team, Heartbeat Chorus, Take-A-Part Electronics Class, Computer Science/Coding, Robotics, Chess, iPad Math, Boardgames, Artsy Fun, Reading and Writing Clubs, Dreambox Math, Cup Stacking, Juggling, Junior Science Naturalists, and much more!
